December 2009

As of December 2009, we are proud to announce that The George Balanchine Trust will begin to manage Symphony in C on behalf of the School of American Ballet.

November 2009

Companies around the world celebrated the Ballet Russes Centennial in 2009 by presenting many of the ballets produced for the legendary company, among them Balanchine's Apollo and Prodigal Son.  American Ballet Theatre, Ballet West, Boston Ballet, Grand Rapids Ballet, Los Angeles Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, Het National Ballet, and K Ballet performed Prodigal Son during their 2009 season, while Ballet Arizona, Diablo Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Richmond Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Tbilisi Ballet, Teatro alla Scala, and Teatro dell Opera di Roma presented Apollo in honor of this special occasion.

September 2009

In Balanchine's Classroom, a film by Connie Hochman, is a documentary which looks at George Balanchine, the teacher, through the memories of the dancers who worked with him.  The film is currently in production.  For more information, and to view the trailer, please go to: http://www.dancefilmsassn.org/mov_ibc.html

January 2009

The 75th anniversary of The School of American Ballet is celebrated with New York City Ballet's performances of George Balanchine's Serenade, Tarantella, The Four Temperaments, and Vienna Waltzes.  For this special performance, a number of the principal roles were performed by SAB alumni now dancing with American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, Carolina Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet.

2009 marks the 40th anniversary of Valse Fantaisie; the 50th anniversary of Episodes; the 60th anniversary of Firebird and Bourrée Fantasque; the 80th anniversary of Prodigal Son.
